After Strawberry and Jaggery Festival, Kalanamak Rice Festival held in UP
After the grand success of
the Strawberry Festival in Jhansi and the Jaggery Festival in Lucknow, the Uttar
Pradesh state government has organized three-day Kalanamak Rice Festival in Siddharthnagar from
Mar 13 to 15, 2021.
About Kalanamak Rice Festival

Adityanath is creating new income opportunities for the farmers and promoting
the local production from each district of UP state and providing opportunities
in the market.
The festival displayed
several dishes prepared by the Kalanamak rice at various stalls. The dishes
include pulao, kheer, lentils, cumin rice, poha, vegetable, rice-chickpeas,
khichdi, idli, fara. Those who attended the festival have tasted several dishes
made with Kala Namak rice. They can purchase Kala Namak paddy seeds and rice
from stalls. During the festival, the visitors got to know the historical,
nutritional and scientific merits & information regarding the cultivation
of Kala Namak Rice.
About KalaNamak Rice
Kalanamak is one of the finest quality
scented rices of India. The variety has been in cultivation since the Buddhist
period (600 BC). It is quite popular in Himalayan Tarai of Eastern Uttar
Pradesh state of India and is also known as the scented black pearl of Uttar
Pradesh. The
Kala Namak Rice is grown in this region and is One District One Product of some
of the Eastern UP districts. KalaNamak Rice is grown in Siddharthanagar, Deoria, Gorakhpur, Maharajganj,
Kushinagar, Basti, Sant Kabir Nagar, Gonda, Bahraich, Balrampur, and Shravasti
district of Uttar Pradesh state. The rice is Geographical Indication (GI)
tagged rice from Siddharth Nagar district in Uttar Pradesh. KalaNamak Rice is grown in
this region and is One District One Product (ODOP) of some Eastern UP
districts. These
products will become brands and also become an identity of brand UP.
About One District One Product (ODOP)
One District One Product
(ODOP) scheme has been started by CM Yogi Adityanath to provide opportunities;
employments and to promote market and brand the selected products from each
district of state as One District One Product (ODOP) under the ‘Atmanirbhar
Bharat Abhiyan’ and ‘Local for Vocal’ campaign. The UP government’s One District One Product
Programme aims to encourage indigenous and specialized products and crafts from
each district of UP state. This
scheme will provide approximately 25 lakh employment across the state.
Accordingly, UP government will provide Rs. 25000 to local craftsmen and
entrepreneurs in the upcoming 5 years. UP government had launched this scheme in
2018. One
District One Product (ODOP) scheme
emphasizes on the raising the quality of products so that these products can
compete at international level. After the successful implementation of One
District One Product Scheme 2021 in country, all the products under ODOP will
be promoted at international level and will get international recognition.
