From Temples to Shops and Houses of Hindus were allegedly vandalised in Bangaldesh. Attacks on Hindu temples and Durga Puja venues across Bangladesh. ISKCON temple in the country’s Noakhali was vandalised and many devotees were allegedly killed by a mob.

Attacks on Durga Puja Pandals

Durga Puja is an integral part of Hindu Bengali culture. Apart from being a religious festival, it is an emotion that resonates in the hearts of the Bengali community. The Secretary-General of the World Hindu Federation (Bangladesh Chapter) informed that the Muslim fanatics attacked 15 Puja pandals (Banskhali), 3 temples and puja pandals (Melaghar in Patia), 5 temples and Puja pandals (Sarkarhat and Hathazari) in the Chittagonj district. At the same time, Hindu's houses and families were attacked in Hajiganj in the Chandpur district extremists.

The extremists attacked the Ram Thakur Ashram and vandalised 10 temples and puja pandals including Mongola, Nabadurga, Bijoya, Trishul and Koatbari Puja Pandal. At the same time, 9 temples and puja pandals were vandalised at Choumohoni in Noakhali.on Wednesday (October 13), extremists reportedly entered the Nanuar Dighir Par Durga Mandir in Cumilla district and placed a copy of the Quran on the feet of the idol of Lord Hanuman.

Attack on ISCKON Temple

On Friday (October 15), a mob of radical extremists attacked the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) temple in the Noakhali district of Bangladesh. In a official twitter handle of ISKCON wrote, “ISKCON temple & devotees were violently attacked today by a mob in Noakhali, Bangladesh. Temple suffered significant damage & the condition of a devotee remains critical. We call on the Govt of Bangladesh to ensure the safety of all Hindus & bring the perpetrators to justice.” Those who attacked were neither terrorists nor goons but those who belonged to majority community. Our three devotees were killed. The Bangladesh government should take action to prevent such incidents in future,” said Vrajendra Nandan Das, Director-ISKCON National Communication.

Indian High Commissioner Visits Pandals | Meets Hindu Delegation

After communal attacks on hindu's temples and houses in Bangladesh, the Indian High Commissioner met a delegation of the Hindu community. The High Commission is in touch with the Bangladesh government, who’ve also made an effort to provide security.

PM Sheikh Hasina Promises Action

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that her Government will deliver justice in the violence that was marked by mobs targeting Durga puja pandals and ISCKON. “A thorough investigation is under way in the incidents in Comilla. Nobody will be spared. We are getting a lot of information about the incident. It doesn’t matter which religion they belong to. They will be hunted down and punished,” said Sheikh Hasina at a virtual event during which she interacted with worshippers at the historic Dhakeshwari temple in Dhaka on the occasion of the puja celebrations. “We also understand that the ongoing festive celebrations of Durga puja continue in Bangladesh with the support of government agencies and of course, a large majority of the public,” Official spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs Arindam Bagchi said during a media interaction.
