in this blog, I am goin to tell you about how has teahncolgy affected education in modern age. We will see benefits as well as critics of technology in education. Let's starts with me.

Now a day, Technology plays vital role in individual’s life. It has positive as well as negative impacts on human’s life. Technology affects every aspect of life not only education. Technology is used in almost everywhere in leaning, communication, transportation, health-care, education, business etc. We are living in the era of internet and mobile phones. Human has been impacted by technology through communication. Several electronic mode of communication such as e-mails and social media are brought by technology. In this modern age no one can be untouched by technology.

Technology in Education: Overview

Technology has become important part of today’s class room. The use of technology supports both teaching as well as learning. Technology opens up new ways of teaching-leaning. Technologies incorporate class rooms with digital content and digital devices like computers, projectors and other hand held devices. Technology allows teaching and learning for 24×7 independent from location of teachers and learners. Technology increases engagement of students in learning. Online teaching-learning can increase productivity by increasing rate of leaning, reduces the delivery time of learning material. Massive educational material such as books, audio, images, videos are available at one’s fingertips over Internet. Students can share their work and collaborate on group project using digital learning tool like Google docs, Google class room, spreadsheet etc.

Technology in Education: Benefits

Providing digital device and teaching-learning tools in teacher's hand helps to achieve many goals. Here are some benefits if using technology in education.

1. Use of videos, animations increases active participation of students.
2. With the use of technology, countless online education resources are available for teachers. Teachers can use to enhance teaching-leaning.
3. Allow teachers to provide more personalize content and lesson to students.
4. Allow students to learn at their own places at any time and ability level.
5. Digital tools and applications allow students to do more creative work and solve more complex problems.
6. Use of technology prepares students for modern workspace.
7. Improve communication among teachers, students and parents.
8. Management of school and class room becomes easy.

Open Educational Resources (OER) – Boon for Education

Open Educational Resources (OER) are boon to promote digitalization of education. Open Educational Resources are license free resources useful for teaching-learning and research purpose; which are made freely available to everyone on Internet. They are published under open licenses. The content can be used, reused, adapted, shared and modified according to specific needs. Open sources play crucial role in digital teaching-learning. OER includes lecture notes, textbooks, images, audios, videos etc. The development and promotion of OER are motivated to enhance digital teaching –learning.

UNESCO Open Educational Resources Congress

First World Open Educational Resources (OER) congress was held in Paris in June 2012. World OER Congress is organized by UNESCO. It promotes openly license publicly funded educational materials and gives recommendations to government and institutions across the world. 

Technology in Education: Critics

Although, there are several benefits of use of technology in education, there are some critics as well. High cost of devices and software, paid educational materials, lack of proper training, limited access to resources, dependency on Internet and lack of infrastructure are some major reasons that technology not used in education. Implementation of technology and training may also be time consuming. There is initial setup and training cost inherent in the use of technology.

Technology is valuable tool for education and has become necessary part of today’s classroom. We have seen benefits and critics of use of technology for teaching-learning in classroom. The most important thing school and teacher need to use these technology and resources effectively for the welfare of students and society.
