नमस्कार दोस्तों, In today's blog we will talk about Why Indian and Pakistan governments exchange the list of their nuclear sites every year. We will discuss everything about nuclear plants and agreement. Let's start with me.

India and Pakistan have signed an agreement ‘Non Nuclear Aggression Agreement’ in 1988. The agreement was drafted and signed by Indian PM Rajiv Gandhi and Pakistan PM Benazir Bhutto. The agreement also known as 'Agreement between India and Pakistan on the Prohibition of Attack against Nuclear Installation and Facilities'. This agreement was effective from January 1991. It is a nuclear weapons control treaty. Both Nations would make limited nuclear arms and pledged not to attack or assist foreign power to attack on each's nuclear plants. This agreement also has the provision that both countries inform each other nuclear installation on 1st January every year.

We must know why India and Pakistan have signed such agreement. One of the major reasons was 'Operation Brasstacks' in 1986. This was a huge mock military exercise in Rajasthan by Indian army. During Operation Brasstacks, more than half million Indian soldier were gathered in Rajasthan near Pakistan border. Military exercise was at such a huge level that an atmosphere was created across the world that India could attack Pakistan any time. At that time Pakistan also had put its nuclear installation on high-alert. Many books have been written Operation Brasstacks and even Natwar Singh, Foreign Minister of that time also wrote in his book that PM Rajiv Gandhi was completely unaware from Operation Brasstacks. When PM came to know about Operation Brasstacks, he intervened into the matter. Then both countries communicated with each other and PM Rajiv Gandhi also said India will not attack on Pakistan.

Moreover, in 1988, PM Benazir Bhutto invited to PM Rajiv Gandhi to Pakistan. During this visit, PM Benazir Bhutto kept a proposal that if war happens between India and Pakistan in future, no one would attack on each's nuclear site. Both Nations agreed. 30 years have been passed to this agreement and although there are many issues between India and Pakistan but still on 1st January every year, both nations share the list of their nuclear site.
